YOUR MARKET

We’re recognized as an Alberta Approved Farmers’ Market.

As an approved market, you can be sure you’re buying fantastically fresh and local produce of the highest quality. As a market, we must meet the following standards:

  • Markets must maintain a minimum vendor split of 80/20. 80% of the vendors must sell Alberta products which they or a family member have produced. A staff member or a member of a producer owned cooperative of their staff may also have made, baked, or grown the produce. The remaining 20% of the products can be from out of province, resale or commercial products.

  • Markets must maintain sponsorship from

    • A not-for-profit community group

    • A local Chamber of Commerce

    • A local municipality or agricultural society

    • By forming their own not-for-profit society under the Societies Act.

Shopping with us means you can be confident knowing that the majority of purchases support the local community. It also means that we can drive community development here in Hillhurst & Sunnyside.

OUR MARKET MANIFESTO

These are our promises to you, and our mission as a local market.

  • The HSFM will provide a source of good quality, flavourful food and goods for the inner-city community.

  • The HSFM will provide a venue committed to allowing producers to make a fair living for the challenging and vital work they do.

  • The HSFM will foremost support local farmers, food creators and artisans that are organic or transitioning to organic.

  • The HSFM will have a large variety of vendors, encompassing a broad spectrum of products to attract a diverse demographic.

  • The HSFM will be a gathering space for the community and a desired destination beyond just food. Themed markets, live music, children's activities and featured community based organizations will contribute to this. Patrons will be drawn from beyond the Hillhurst Sunnyside boundaries.

  • The HSFM will be a place to bring together the urban and rural areas. We will bridge the divide between our populations and between food producers and consumers.

  • The HSFM will actively engage in, and support, the Community Food Strategy. We will also support further initiatives relating to community food security.
